First ride on my new bike
So I've put together a new fixed, using the wheels from my Fort and a proper track frame found hanging in the back of my favourite LBS (pics to come, when I get my butt in gear). I took it out sunday for a test ride, just a 10 mile round-trip into town with my girlfriend. The Brooks was comfortable as heck, the Moscows mounted upside and pointing backwards were not. Gotta get some B123s for it. 53/20 gearing was perfect, not bad for a bit of guesswork. MKS clips and straps took a bit of getting used to, clipping in can be very tricky First time brakeless though, not too sure if I like it (bit of practice needed I think).
Worst thing was, being a 70s frame it doesn't have the luxury of standard parts sizing, like seatposts. The guy in the shop was sure it's a 27.2, but I'm not so sure any more. Just riding along (as they say), fair old pace, them all of a sudden I'm 4 inches lower. Believe me, having your seatpost slip is a scary experience. How I didn't come off I'll never know. I then had to walk the last mile and a half into town, eventually caught my girlfriend up, and hope I could find an allen key somewhere. Being sunday the LBS is closed, and I'd resigned to buying a set from one of those cheap and nasty hardware warehouse-type places (like B&Q or Home Depot but rubbish). We stopped in the town centre for an ice cream, and I spotted a guy on an MTB and ran over to see if he could help. Hooray for American-Hong Kongers with multi tools and shims made from movie stubs Made it all the way home sitting a bit lower than I'd like, and without any other bike-related problems, except slightly numb hands from the stupid handle bars. Might try my Moustaches out, but it'll look a bit dumb.
Here's to that first ride on a new bike.

Home Depot rocks! (ish) It's the cheap impersonators with no buying power I don't like.
And no you can't have the Moscows, I'm saving them fro when I need some tri bars
