Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

He's only riding it in a 1.15k prologue, perfect for a fixed gear sprint.

That's very cool. Now, do any NY people know of a bar that might be showing the race, for those of us who are cable/tv impaired? I heard something about a bar in brooklyn that showed cycling events, but not exactly what bar or where...

Cool but riding fixed is nothing new for time trails. You can only use them for that purpose and with a brake.

Nope, the fixie comes in 6th. 2 Seconds behind Brett Lancaster (Aus).

Just watched O'Grady finish. The race was pretty typical, he started out slow wound up to a good speed but it wasn't quite good enough. His final time was something like 1:22.625 whereas Lancaster finished at 1:20.985 (if I remember right), so a pretty favorable showing but obviously it's always packed pretty tight near the top.

6th out of a field of 197.

that's gotta be one of the shortest time trials, right? 1.15km is nothing.

It was very interesting to watch, and to see how genuinely WASTED everyone was by the time they got within 200M or so of the line.
