work stand

thanks to slopvehicle i came across this work stand - https://www.chucksbikes.com/store/indextl002.htm - for super cheap

i've been meaning to get one and all the ones i've found online have been $150-200 or so. there is very little information...check that, there is no information about the stand on the website so I was wondering if either from personal experience with it or if there is somethig glaring about it just from looking at it, if anyone could offer any comments about this work stand. much appreciated.

Or if you want to build one yourself, you could probably do it for under $20. The "costly" piece was the clamp. I paid around $12 for mine at Home Depot but you can probably get the same thing for around $5 if you shop around. One guy claims to have gotten his for $3.

Ask Chuck- frankly that looks much better than the BB/downtube "clamp" cheapo I'm using.

i know the good thing about many stands is the clamp is padded as to now damage the frame. i wish i could tell if that one for $68 is padded or not. have you ever had any problems with scratching the frame from the home depot vice clamps?

Well, I padded the clamps and made concave grooved jaws out of blocks of wood. I also use a rag around the seatpost just in case.

I've had my Park folding stand for about 12 years or so. I guess the new ones aren't as great quality, but just about any stand will last you through a few bikes, or at least a few thousand dollars in components.
