Rocket rings?

Anybody use one? Are they resonably round? Someone told me once that with smaller rings, it's more difficult to ensure roundness. Is this true? If so, would you trust a 39t rocket ring?

No experience with the small rings, but I've used and still use the 45/46/47/48 rings for a couple of my bikes and they are fine. Very good alternative to getting those teeth combinations for under $20

I use a 42 and it seems a little less than round, but it still works and is fairly cheap. I tried a cheap Nashbar relacement ring and bent it on the second ride. The Rocket has lasted all winter.

I've got a 48t and while I would prefer a forged steel ring, the price is right. It's not the roundest in the world, but it works. I don't know that I'd go smaller though. The tolerances are probably the same but for a small radius ring, the effect is more pronounced.

Are these still a QBP offering?
I know Harris Cyclery carries them, are they last of stock or can other LBSs order them?

Thanks,
Al

What other choices (at any cost) are there for a 47t 130 BCD ring?

In no particular order, Sugino, TA, Shimano Dura Ace. Probably a few others.

I dunno about QBP--I saw them in J&B. Only other 1/8 rings in J&B I can get are Dura ace track--which are not only super expensive, but not available in 39t.

Are you responding my my questions of who else makes a 47t 130 ring? I can't seem to find a LBS that carries a 47t ring.

What about a high-quality 38, 39, or 40 t ring in 130?

Thanks. For 47t/130 Harris has Rockets and TA only. I just was curious where Harris gets Rockets (QBP?) as I like to do all my business thru my LBS as there service and support is so fantastic, so if I can help guide them a bit as to where to get a 47t ring (which they don't normally stock), I'd like to.

Got a 47 & 48, they work pretty good so far. The 110/130 setups came in handy too.

DA 7700 comes in 39t as do Nashbar brand. Harris says they carry 38t through 40t rings from Sugino, TA, and Salsa. Those should actually be pretty easy to come by as a lot of older 12 speed bikes came with 40/52 for the crankset.

I'm guessing the rockets come from Quality or some other large vendor as everyone seems to carry them. That's what I got from my LBS when I needed a 47t ring.

I just put a 48 on last night. I was running a 44 before that. Probably not the best rings out there, but I haven't bent up the teeth yet or anything, and I was running the 44 all winter...

Second the salsa reccomendation. They are mid priced, i.e more trhan a rocket but cheaper than a real track ring, and come in black/silver, and many BCDs in many sizes. I think they might also make a 1/8" ring, too?
QBP is their distributor so they're super easy to get.

Oh yea, also cnc machined in the usa (round!), and they last a long time. I've been running one for 2+ years on a fixie/ss, with a poor chainline, usually a dirty chain, and through 2 wet, sandy, salty boston winters. Hardly any noticible wear....

I just ordered a Sugino 47t 130 BCD from TomD at Harris Cyclery.

order@harriscyclery.net

He describes it as a Shimano knockoff, identical to the standard Sugino 48t presently delivered on the 2005 Pista.

https://sheldonbrown.com/harris/chainrings/130.html#47

$36.95

I intend to pair the 47t ring with an EAI 17t cog.

I have a brand new (used barely ridden) 48T Rocketring. I have only ridden it a few times, but it feels pretty smooth. I got it with my new frame and was planning on replacing it, but I think I actually like it afterall.
One thing is for sure - it sure does look sexy!

Actually - that's the other thing I like about them - flat black. Yup, that's what I like. I'm running the new one flipped so the logo faces in so you can't tell what kind of ring it is...

I got mine from danscomp.com for 4.99. Looks like they had a run on 47t rings though.

I like mine. Unfortunately a couple of the hosted pictures are toast. But you'll get an idea. Email me if you want high-res stuff. No issues, and beefy as heck. Nothing but good comments about it, except for the extra holes for the 130 BDC spacing.
