Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Girl frame with slanted top tube and track ends?

this morning I saw the most beautiful girls schwinn with the sloping tope tube, and it had track drop outs. the paint all looked original in the low light, so i was set back by this. was gonna get a frame, and have my friend at sycip put some campy ends on, but if theres a rare crown jewel out there i don't know about, i gotta educate myself! ever seen this bike at trader joes soma, or one like it?! A WINNER IN MY BOOK!

This girl I've been dating recently bought a cheap production cruiser. It's got a three-speed internally geared hub, and horizontal track drop outs. Maybe this girl you saw was riding something like that, or a modified BMX bike? Or maybe she's just got some super cool girl-frame track bike.

i have a 2001 dahon speed 7 (folding bike) and the gearing has always kinda sucked--the one gear that worked well was the one with the straight chainline. i was thinking about making it a singlespeed and checked the dropouts--they're "track dropouts"! no idea why. so now it's a half-baked singlespeed--no derailleur or shifter, but still rolling a 7spd freewheel, stuck in gear #4, until I get my freewheel removers in the mail. anyway, it was a shock to see the track-style fork ends. if we didn't use it as a guest bike I'd fix it.
