Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Boston folks: Redbones Bike Party 5/16!

Who's there? I'm all over this!

Link

Monday, May 16 5 - 10 PM

Join hundreds of bicycle commuters, couriers, racers and recreational riders for the biggest, best block party of the year! It's outside in front of Redbones and when you come you support two bicycle advocacy groups:

New England Mountain Bike Association www.NEMBA.org
Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition www.MassBike.org

$15.00 per person buys you bicycle valet parking, a Redbones sandwich with all the fixin's, a beverage & 2 raffle tickets.

From handle bars to hats, maps to memberships, our generous sponsors donate top-of-the-line gear and services to the raffle. Pump up the proceeds with your purchase of additional tickets and remember, the more you buy, the more you may win - and help NEMBA and MassBike. Extra raffle tickets: 1 for $2.00 & 3 for $5.00

Here's a partial list of this year's sponsors:

Wheelworks
Hokey Spokes
Kryptonite Locks
Rubel BikeMaps
Seven Cycles
The Ride Magazine
Vintage Etc.
Alternative Needs Transportation
Harpoon Beer
Independent Fabrication
Paramount Bicycle
Emerging Vehicles
Boston Pedicab
Zipcar

I have also heard rumors that ANT donated a commuter to the raffle. Oooooo.

Yo.

I'm joining a "delegation" from work which will be riding over at 5. I have a meeting there at 7, but in between times I gots nothing other than I told Mike Flanigan that I'd see him there. (Seriously, I meet the guy once when he's got like a thousand other people milling around his shop and he recognizes me on sight and remembers my name...impressive.)

So:

This was a blast! I ate a pulled pork, a pulled chicken, and veggie kebab.

Saw Trevor there, and when Trevor had to leave, he gave me his raffle tickets to hold for him, and check while they were calling the numbers.

Of course I win nothing.

Trevor, however, won a free one year membership to Zipcar, a $50 gift certificate to Belmont Wheelworks, and F-IN mountain bike (the 2nd largest prize)!

That ******* is lucky I wasn't feeling greedy!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: apparently one Mr. Pete Ford works at the museum. He was telling me tonight that his brother, Adam, is gunning for gold in NYC in July.

Small world and all that.
