Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

so i priced out a AC thunderdome with a fairly decent build, it came to about $2150 for everything for a complete build. the frame and fork are $650, so you could use $1500 plus what ever frame you want. which may sound like a lot of money, but i took a undefeated II and priced what it would cost to buy the bike and then replace all the parts that i feel are sub par, it ran about $2050.

If you are looking to buy a 4 figure fixed gear, i would build it from the ground up to suit your individual needs, you get to pick your parts and can go as cheap or as expensive as you want. Can you beat the state in terms of price with a ground up build? i dont think so, but imo the state has sub par parts on it aside from the frame, wheels, and crank set.

What else is there really to a fixed gear than that? For less than 1k it doesn't seem all that bad. I think if it's someone's first fixed gear it would be a fine bike to learn and build upon.

i agree to an extent, but 1k seems like alot for a starter bike to me. If im spending 1k i want quality everywhere i can get it.
