on saturday <strike>ostro</strike> fixedpip suggested that the sf fixie crew organize a bike swap, something low key and mellow so we can give each other first shot at all the unused parts we have stashed away.
i think this weekend might be too early, but how about the following weekend, maybe somewhere in the panhandle?
GG park BBQ and part swap sounds like a lot of fun. I have some stuff I need to get rid of and like to eat food and drink beer in the park. I've been digging the area of the park closer to the ocean lately. Also, can we do it on a Sunday?
I think sunday should be fine too, we just start early enough 12-whenever, the only thing is that someone has to be at the park buttass early to grab a spot. But if we are serious and have enough takers, with enough bringers, then i think we can do it.
Custom Richie Ditta Track Bike, Eddie Merckx Corsa, Marioni Custom Pista, Dolan Cyclocross
We really should do it and while I like the park idea, for a bike swap its much better to be near(ish) BART and somewhere with some parking for folks bringing a lot of stuff or coming in from the East Bay.
Hard to drag a lot of stuff out to the park. Its also going to be a pain to ride back with bikes/frames as well.
Originally I was thinking of talking to the Bike Hut and Bike Kitchen folks to see if we could spring something on their turf. We could then either later do the GGP thing or organize it as a seperate event.
hmm, that's a good point...
what about dolores park? that's pretty close to 16th st. bart, and i only live a few blocks away and folks could stash stuff at my place if we wanted to do the bbq thing afterwards.
Once a date for the swap is settled upon, notify SF Bike coalition to put it in their events calendar.
Also, some flyers at Valencia Cyclery, Pedal Rev, Box Dog Bikes, and Bike Kitchen may bring out the mission fixie folks.
Whenever, if we're going to do the BBQ seperately, I'd rather geek out on the bike swap on a saturday and BBQ on sunday. My wife works every saturday, so geeking out on a sunday is not a good idea, but BBQ-ing in the park on a sunday is.
As a spin-off, anyone want to do a BBQ in the park sometime soon? Maybe play some "foot down" on the grass...
ahhh...i see...when i was younger we played something similar on our bmx's, instead of foot down, we played "knock over" where you would go around in a circle and try to knock the person in front of you down by bashing your front wheel into the back of theirs. I dont think we should play this version though! ;-)
How many people are gonna be at this? Can we get a role call? I have a lot of space that is close to the freeway, bart, muni, etc. Its inside, so we'd have to go elsewhere for the BBQ, but people on public transit could just stash their stuff in my space and pick it up after the BBQ.
