Newbie SS wheel questions...
...first, if I buy a new wheelset from Nashbar or other online company, how do I choose the correct rear hub?
Will a cassette type hub accept a SS freewheel or do I need a threaded hub?
How do I align the freewheel with the crank ring?

For a SS you just need a threaded hub. Then you just thread on a freewheel. If you need to adjust your chainline you can use spacers and then redish your wheel.
If you are buying a new wheel I would suggest a hub that is also threaded for a fixed gear lockring on one side and a freewheel on the other. I would also suggest looking at IRO https://www.irocycle.com/ for a wheelset.
Do you know what spacing you need? You will need that too.

Thanks for the link, I don't know the spacing but will check shortly. My daughters have their last soccer game in an hour.

i agree with cynikal about getting what's called a flip flop hub. you might like single speed riding so much that you want to switch over to a fixed gear.
as for getting the chainline straight, there a bunch of ways to tinker. you could redish the wheel--which is adjusting how the rim is centered over the hub via tightening the spokes on one side and loosening them on the other (roughly speaking, that is)... you can find lots more info on that and just about everything else bike-related on www.sheldonbrown.com
you can also add spacers between the chainring and the crankspider...
