Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Brake Recommendations?

I'm building a Fixie off an Origin8 frame, I'd like some sort of brakes. Better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them. My buddy told me to get side pull calipers.

Tektro and Shimano make decently priced brakes that work.

Currently using a Shimano Sora front brake. Works just fine and not too expensive.

The calipers aren't a yuge deal so long as you don't go with complete garbage but you really want a good set of pads. ****e pads will turn a good brake into a bad one and a bad brake into a worse one. Also good quality and fresh cables and housing will help as well with good braking.

For pads I would go Shimano DA/Ultegra/105(currently using), TRP Inplace (currently using), SwissStop (any of their stuff is well reviewed and you would pick based on conditions and rim type more than quality levels), Kool Stop Dura-Type or Jagwire Road Pro S (for Shimano/Sram)

For cables and housing, I recommend a good slick stainless cable (galvanized is garbage) and if you can compressionless housing if not Jagwire stuff works a-ok and is easier to work with than compressionless.
