weinemann dp 18s + brakes squeaking

These rims aren't machined for brakes, but I figured it couldn't be terrible for a rarely used commuter. They just squeak like crazy. Anybody had this issue in the past/have any advise?

Rims weren't always machined for brakes, and don't need to be. Just keep using them and they'll break in.

Are your brake pads toed in? They should be angled so that the entire pad doesn't press flat against the rim, that can cause squeaking.

I have these same rims, I believe, and they squeal like a pig. But my problem is I need to clean the braking service. Its pretty crusty.

What color are they? If they're anything other than silver they are painted, hence the excessive squealing. Once the paint wears off it won't be a problem.
