I've heard some good things about the Randos as far as durability goes. Never used them myself, but I've tried a few versions of the Rubino Pro and they're my preferred tire these days. Vittoria definitely makes some good stuff.

vittoria randonneurs are a good all-round tires that will hold up well for skidding and rough roads, been using them for years

I ran a pair of 32's on my touring bike that I commuted on for years... ran 'em dead, too. I'd go back to them in a heartbeat. Not sure how they would hold to skidding, though.

I'm trying a set of Randonneurs (700x35s) on a touring bike right now, no problems after about 300 miles. I DID have one that blew out badly not long after I first put them on, but that was from getting cut by a sharp piece of sheet metal I ran over (it was dark outside, so missed it lying in the street). Sliced through the side of the tire and tube, luckly I was only about 2 miles from home. I took it back to REI and (amazingly) they exchanged it for a new one!

The only problem I've had with Vittoria tires is they can be difficult to get on/off some types of rims. I had some 700x32s and could not get them on a set of Vuelta rims. I also had a Steamroller with Alex rims and the Vittoria 32s went on/off with no problems.

there's nothing amazing about rei taking it back. they have a 365 day no questions asked return policy on EVERYTHING they sell. doesn't matter if it's returned new in box or completely beat down. they will take it back.

They don't ride great but they hold up well probably fine for skidding.

Although I always think if you skid alot you might as well buy more sets of cheap tires. Then get some nice tires when/if you get tired of skidding.

Good, tough tires. My girl and I both use 28's (her on a SS, me on a geared commuter so no skidding). Max PSI as written on the tire is 85 which feels kinda mushy. I ride them at 100, she does the recommended 85, neither of us have ever gotten a flat.

Also of note, the 28's clock in closer to 25.

I have had a few sets of VR 32s, they measured 29. Mounting was easy, last a long time.

They're heavy and slow - about what you'd expect for bomb-proof tires.
Lots of extra rubber for lots of skidding.

Yeah they're thick and tough, way better than Soma Everwear's.

That was my impression too. Story time:

One time I sat on my glasses and broke one of the lenses. Brought them to REI, told them what happened, and the person gave me the credit no problem. Fast forward a little while and I lost the nose piece on some Tifosi's that I got. So, I snapped one of the interchangeable lenses in order to try and get a new set, just like how I got the previous replacement. The guy said it was a no go, even though I could've just returned them by saying "I didn't like them".

I realize it was this kind of abusing of the system that eventually made their lifetime warranty go to annual and I accept that now.

Oh, and buy Gatorskins instead. They smell better.
