I'm pretty sure that's a Madison, though the color scheme is rather close. But if anyone does put risers on a little 5 bike, I think Protective Services it allowed to come take it from you.

Its best to buy a built wheel with coaster hub, try niagara cycle

Coaster brakes are great, if you don't mind that you can't backpedal. You can build a fun singlespeed with them and cruise around.

I use a Alex/HiStop coaster wheel on my motorised beach bike. Using a low gear (10-15mph pedal speed) gives more leverage for braking than a higher gear.

They are a compromise design, but good for "get on and ride" without fiddling. Also good for a rear brake on a rainy day beater bike.

Hey that's great! Coaster brakes alone are a challenge, but work great with a conventional front caliper brake. The biggest challenge is having 1 gear on a bike.

Hey, your website is a dud, though. Is it a prank website? I like the idea of a coaster brake criterium race though.

Rusty Junky Bikes in Long Beach CA sells coaster brake wheelsets.

They also sell a coaster brake bike.

You should really have at least a front backup brake if you are set on riding a coaster brake bike. A sudden coaster brake failure is not good...

No, my browser crashed.

I was talking about the Primitive cycling website (regarding the coaster-brake criterium racing).

If you don't want people to find or reply to your threads, close or delete them.

oh hey zombie thread! guess i will feed the zombie with my coaster brake pics. whatever excuse to post pics of bieks, right?

schwinn racer! was my brothers. took it, stripped all the super rusty paint, left it nekkid, put new wheelset on it. had it as beater bike for a year or so, gave it back to bro. too many bikes in my house lol

mixte i built for the GF! an old raleigh mixte bike i bought off craigslist. wheelset and gears were garbage so got a coaster brake wheelset off velomine, spray bombed the frame, added a few things....nice to have the girl come along on rides!

of course one of the cheapest builds i do becomes my favorite to ride. an old phillips 3 speed frame from the 60s bought for 10 bucks, origin8 b43-knockoff wheelset (works for me), coaster brake obviously. parts bin and presto!

seriously, there is something both extremely gratifying and nostalgic about busting a couple cars-length skids on a coaster brake bike ;p

re: Boozhound Labs coaster bike.

I don't trust JB weld, but the coaster brake transplant was a good swap. Why do anything to the existing horizontal dropouts?

If you just insist, you should cut off the existing dropout, and weld new "track forks" made from small angle-iron or flat-iron pieces. That would be cheap and you could grind them to any fit. Also, you could slot one or drill multiple holes, for the brake-arm. If that strap or bolt brakes, the bike will pedal you as the axle rotates in the frame.

I like the phillips coaster bike. Slick!

The 7speed coaster bike is cool too. What gear hub did you go with? I can't tell which it is. Is it the Nuvinci? That looks like it. Harris Cyclery has them, and the extension knob for road bars to fit the shifter. I think the infinite ratio hub will be a big hit when they can lighten it up some.

Johnny, my black Virtue frame looks cool with white Specialized Nimbus Sport tires. But the top tread doesn't stay clean the first time you hit the road, LOL. The sidewalls look just purty!

Thanks Norman!

Specialized Armadillos have that dark stripe on the side, kinda matches the Brooks and the Bar tape (Just Riv cork with Bullseye Shellac! Cheap and durable)

White tires end up looking like....butthole ;(

Have you thought about the schwalbe delta cruiser "creme" tires? Big and heavy, but they look BETTER (not good, mind you) than white tires after some riding. I ride them on another Coaster Brake bike I built up:

(closeup for the tires)

(Pashley Guv'nor takeoff, using an old schwinn cruiser frame)

Cream? I'm not a fan of cream tires on a black bike. I think white keeps the look interesting.
