Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

mmmm, new wheels!

YES! I just built up my first set of wheels in about three years. Thanks to a half bottle of Bombay Saphire gin for the motivation and Marcus @ Yojimbo's garage in Chicago for hooking me up with some bubblegum pink Velocity deep V rims and giving me a nice deal on some new hub bearings & spokes.

Wheel info: Velocity Deep V rims - pink with machined sidewalls, nashbar track hubs with upgraded bearings, 14/15ga double butted silver DT spokes. Both wheels laced 3X.

I'll snap some pictures later this weekend. I need to get some new tires that match the rims better but I think they look pretty hot already.

Very nice! It sure is satisfying to ride on your own wheels... I just built up a set using the nashbar hubs the other day, and they are quite satisfying. What brand of bearings did you upgrade too, and can you tell the difference?

My lucky score was a set of Serface Deca tires from the dumpster, 700Cx23mm with side strips colored a greyish green that exactly matches my frame. The tires have obviously been ridden, but are far from worn out.

So far I've spend about 100$ on this wheelset, and I'm pretty friggen pleased with them.

peace,
sam

PS. I want to see pics of your crazy pink action.
