Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

the departure from traditional black bike shorts is truly a sign of the fall of civilization.

Go ahead and wear it. As long as you are going more than a couple miles, I see no problem with it. The late Mayo would tell you that wearing your full USPS kit was perfectly fine.

However, if you are only riding a few miles, I would suggest going to the Road forum and searching of OCP club.

**that said, I really think that we fixed riders need our own OCP (obsessive compulsive poser) club.

edit- was Boonen excited?

We need.... the Posenger club!! And I nominate myself the first member if others agree, I've got the Langster, 2 messenger bags (timbuk2's of course!) and while I don't have an ipod, I do use a mac. And, in the hardware store today (OSH) I noticed what must be some of the ultimate emo glasses, big ol' thick-framed sunglasses, with these stupid lil' chrome SKULLS on the sides! And, they're made by/for GM! Yep, the junk-bond car company, that GM. I gotta gets me some of those!

I think the excitment of the race gets many excited in many ways. What would one's emotions be as being kissed by the podium girls. Facial features are so often painful or exagerated.
The excitement of being on the podium. the emotions. like to think we all exhibit good self control. Winning is a powerful stimulant tho. Maybe we should wear 1900's style bathing suits.

I think Boonen has a Lycra fetish- seems every photo of him teeters on the edge of decency-

Some teams even have WHITE bibs this year...

My team's new bibs are red- which is as bad if not worse than green.

I think the fact that his jersey says, "INNERGETIC" splayed across the front is just icing on the cake. Or icing on the pie, if you will.

Nothing's wrong with the pee-pees, its just that the whole image is funny. He's got a fabulous grin, his fingers are giving the crazy peace sign, he is dressed in skin tight green spandex, his jersey says, 'innergetic', and he's presenting his pee pee to the world in a most prominent and bold manner.

Its just funny.

peace,
sam

some of us ladies were talking about this last night. it does help decide who to go for. i mean, it's like full-on window shopping. you know exactly what you're getting. i wish more guys would wear non-black spandex.

i just switched from my "traditional" (read, BORING) black spandex to a nice purple spandex... my female friends (and some guys) wear their spandex and cover it just barely with a short homemade fashion skirt, it's a good combo... i'm thinking i might start wearing a kilt...

yup. i almost always have spandex on, but i always hide it with a skirt from the H&M hideous $5 clearance rack. they're ugly skirts but they do the job.

i used to have a pair of 15-yo holey woolen blackbottoms that i would wear a red plaid skirt over. Girls liked that (boys didn't). Lots of goosing. Woo woo!

[hijack] does anyone make good woolen bikeshorts anymore? [/hijack]

I was wondering when this would come up on the forums. Reminds me of the pic of the whole team in red shorts...

That's McEwan. Shall we move this to the TdF forum? Or shall we keep our juvenalia to ourselves?

I heart Boonen!
