Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

i think he means italian-sized (70mm wide, italian threading), not necessarily italian-made. of course, i may be misunderstanding.

any JIS tapered bottom bracket should work... you will want to be careful about chainline, of course, but that's true whether or not it's italian. the bottom bracket shell is just 2mm wider on them.

A Campagnolo taper works much better with Superbe cranks than a Shimano taper. Do a search in the Bike Mechanics forum, or even on search.bikelist.org. I ran a cheapie Veloce BB on my fixed after my adjustable Superbe Pro track BB froze in my frame.

I thought suntour BBs were neither JIS nor ISO. and that the superbe pro cranks only played nicely with the superbe pro BB.

i have suberbe pro cranks and an italian bb, and i called john at business cycles with this very question a couple of months ago. his best solution (in terms of what he could sell me) was a phil wood brs10. his opinion (and others, as you can see) is that ISO is better than JIS. the brs10 is 110.5 mm, not the 109 mm the crank was designed for, but with the cartridge style you can of course play around with the chainline a little bit. it has been satisfactory for me, and a distinct improvement over the incorrect 113 mm mystery set that was on the bike when i got it.

Hate to revive old threads, but A Mystery Must Be Solved.

I know that Superbe Pro -road- cranks take ISO-taper, 112.5 spindle. I know that Superbe Pro -track- cranks take a 109mm spindle.

What I don't know is whether or not the Superbe Pro track cranks take an ISO or JIS-taper spindle. I just picked up a set of Superbe Pro track cranks for the new ride, and I'd far prefer to use the Dura Ace 7600 track BB that's in the frame now than have to buy a new BB...

Anyone?

oddly enough i was just pondering this exact problem this weekend. i too have the dura-ace 7600 BB in my frame and didn't know which cranks to put on there. i had a non-driveside superbe pro just to test the theory... worked fine, or seemed to. i put on a set of sugino 75's and those match it pretty damn well. i dont know if this helps at all?

I was planning on getting a set of Sugino 75s (which I know to work fine on the 7600), but the deal for the Superbe Pros was too good, and I really love the look of the Suntour stuff... Guess I'll slip it on the bike when I receive it and see how things look.

So sad about Suntour disappearing, they really did make great stuff.
