Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Thats hilarious. Its funny if its real, and its funny if its not. Either way, I laughed out loud.

The fixed gears and coaster brakes, and learning 'messenger skids' parts were all funny too.

Silly art school kids, bikes are for physicists.

peace,
sam

classic troll joke, encountered previously on many DH forums (where, incidentally, the OG/poser debate rages furiously too)

"fixed gears with coaster brakes and maybe even a front brake"
How many brakes do you need on one bike. Especially a bike built to you don't have to have all the other crap.

heh check out this little gem...

Hi, this is Geoffery.

Yes I am serious you dolt. I did read about fixed gear bikes that is why I posted a wanted ad, IDIOT. All I want is a blinky fixed gear messenger bike with a front brake or possibly coaster brakes. Why does this make you mad? Maybe it because you are a frustrated moron and will be jealous when I get my blinky because you will be stuck with a stupid stock model bianki pister or sulie steam shovel. Then when I am sitting with my blinky at Rittenhouse I will get more props than you. I bet you ride a conversion with crappy chain tension with quando hubs. I am serious about this! I want a fixed blinky messenger bike. I know what I am talking about people, so dont even start to talk more bunk and ignorantly make youself look like ****** like the guy who tried to talk smack on me, because you will be just making yourself into a bigger idiot than you already are. So serious inquiries only. (Spoke cards optional)

peace Geoffery

He wants a blinky so he can get more props when he is at [whatever name it was] coffee house. Hahahaha..J/K

Nah...

He's not serious, just trolling as the ultimate poseur. I think he is making fun of poseurs actually by being one himself.

He is a good example of the anti-hipster hipster. He is a hipster himself, but doesn't want to be labeled as such. So he points the finger at other hipster to get the heat off himself.

That's funny. He's clowning people on purpose.

as much as I love track bikes they are HUGE in philly (and by "they" I mean conversions and anything that looks like it could be fixed from far away (single speeds with just a front brake)) and alot of these people have no idea what they're doing.
today at bike church (our co-op) i was helping a guy swich out the bottom bracket on his converted bianchi road frame with no brakes and a huge bend in the seatstay because he ran a red and couldn't stop, was in the hospital getting stiches in his head, and he didn't even know what a bottom bracket was.
i'm all about everyone riding track or whatever if they want but run a ****ing brake or at least wear a helmet or at least know what your bottom bracket is.

....sorry....

This is amazing... A couple of my buddies have an on-going joke about starting a bike company called "Sorely", and their bike was going to be called the "Steamshovel". They will also have a product called the "Remultiplicator", a used freewheel cluster that you duct tape on to add speeds to your fg/ss. Good times.
