hey, been riding for years, on road drops, flat bars, everything. been out of riding for about a year and only recently got back on two wheels. i'm on steel track drops, cork-taped, and i usually wear pretty well-padded gloves, and i'm most often on the flat part, or sometimes on the top of the drops (where brake hoods would be were i on a road bike). my fit feels right, and yet i'm getting numb fingers on both sides. i seem to remember getting someting like this before, years and years ago, but i can't remember what i did to cure it. anyone got any ideas on what's wrong and what will make it right? i'm in good shape and usually have terrific circulation.
yes i did. they're trek fingerless mesh gloves with a thick pad. and yes i didn't have the numbness before. and yes, now you mention it, i don't seem to get it without them. but they fit well and don't seem to pinch or impede anything. hmmm
it's most likley just pinched nerves.
same thing happened to me a few months ago after i did a long ride on only my mini straight bars.
Pinched nerves usually just fix themselves over time.
In all honesty, I can't tell if my fingers have fixed themselves or if I'm just used to it.
Either way, just give it time. If it keeps happening, maybe you're not giving your hands/nerves enough of a rest to fully heal and therefore are more prone to re-pinching.
What will make it right? Well, I started wearing gloves to fix the problem but you're already doing that, so I really don't know. I guess just be very conscious while riding to repeatedly change hand position as to not put too much stress on any one area.
