Controlling the funk

I dont know about you guys... but when im working im busting ass trying to make money and sweating heavily... the funk is usually coming from my back (my bag). Basically my bag smells like a dead animal or bigfoots dick most of the time... every once in a while ill wash it in the bathtub... but it only lasts a couple hours ... or days... I just dont like the feeling i get when stuck in the elevator with some hot girl who is throwing up in her mouth waiting for her floor... heh may be a little extreme... im just thinking of getting some patchouli oil and becoming a hippy.

just wondering what others do... tell them to learn to love it?

bodegabandit 07-26-05 06:07 PM

You gotta wash your back if ya must or else ya get funky

No really though how often do you shower/change you clothes into clean ones not off the floor

westonboege 07-26-05 06:14 PM

haha... i shower almost twice a day... and put on clean clothes daily.. but my bag does not get a shower every day... i guess that was the point i was trying to make...

EnLaCalle 07-26-05 06:22 PM

Vinegar, my friend. The answer is vinegar.

I posted a similar question. Here are the results.

you stink because of your sweat coming into contact with the bacteria on your skin. take a shower before you ride. your diet also has a direct effect on your stench. check it out: http://www.newstarget.com/004417.html

made sense to me. when i drink a lot of beer or eat hot dogs, thats what i smell like. so i gave it a try and cut meat out of my diet and started eating better. it works, my gf noticed the difference right away. im not a vegetarian, i still eat meat occasionally but during the week, i try not to. i leave the meat eating for celebrations and bbqs.

i guess if you combine the minus meat and the patchouli, youll be that much closer to being a hippy. but hippys stink.

Chicks dig guys with deuter on their backs.

That said, I still sweat on my back when I am wearing my Deuter Futura 42 AC, but to a much less degree than when I used to wear a messenger bag. If you can make a backpack work for your situation, it is more comfortable.

it can't be

hey, does your pack have those two foam blocks behind the mesh towards the bottom?
they are there to maintain the distance between the mesh and the load, but after a few hours on the bike it felt like those suckers were punchin the sh*it outta my kidneys...did you experience this?

the pack hasn't seen much use since then. Still, it's a damn good one.

No, I didn't have that experience. I don't really use the belt though, it just works for a cupping action for lateral stability. The longest ride I've had it on without a break was about 2.5 hours...so maybe I just haven't built up to the problems. I've worn it without a break walking for about 6 hours. Other than that I use it every day biking about 20 minutes at a time.

Try some freebreeze on your bag. That stuff works wonders.

And again. Bigfoot's dick...awesome...

nike bought all patchouli rights a week and a half ago.

peripatetic 07-27-05 02:13 PM

Go to the link EnLaCalle provided. Learn all you want to know about funk.

Febreeze and anything like it sucks. Don't give your money to mega-billion dollar chemical industries that pollute the hell out of the environment and scare you into thinking you need their product in one fell swoop. Let them make their money on more sincere causes, like wars.

Patchouli smells nice in and of itself. Trouble for me is that it always evokes the notion of hippyness, and that evokes the memory of rank foul funk. It would be nice if people who used it realized that it's not a very good cover-up scent.

jim-bob 07-27-05 02:17 PM

As the lovely Patton Oswalt once said, "You'll smell like dirt that's been f'ed by a hobo!"
