got ripped off
got ripped off, i think the front dorr got left open
and some one came in a ripped my whole house off,
strangely they didn't take my bike but took every thing
else i and since i'm out of town i was wondering if anyone
was heading towards a flee market they could look for a imac
G5 one of the new ones, that is the only thing that i really care
about seeing my family can't afford to replace it.
Thanks much

sorry to hear that man,
good luck putting the peices back together, it may take a while, but it will all work out.
look at it as a thorough overdue spring cleaning.
the loss of the g5 hurts tho

That sucks, I hope everything works out for you.
I had that happen to me twice in 6 months when i lived in queens.
the first time i had no insurance, then i got renters insurance hoping i would never use it, but my place got broken into again... and the insurance came through.
got to replace all the old stuff that was stolen with new stuff (mostly cameras and tech stuff so the update was nice).

when my place was first broken into i had this paranoia that drove me to wash everything. i kept imagining some sicko coming into the apartment to lick all my spoon and drink out of my milk carton adn then lay on my bed for a while.
i always leave the radio on in my apt now to deter any future theives. they tend to strike in the middle of the afternooon when they think no one is home.

Good luck man... And look into renters insurance, if you have a car, they can usually give you renters insurance for just a few bucks more, or you can get it on its own if you don't have a car. Its annoying to have another payment to make, but sometimes it can come through for you.
At least you still have your transportation, the other stuff you can rebuild piece by piece.
Check for IDs and keys and stuff too, like mentioned, it might be worth just changing the locks anyway, you don't want someone coming back for a 'second round'...
Glad no one was hurt.
peace,
sam

Don't let your insurance company push you around, and don't give them any more details than they really need. I had a custom guitar stolen out of my house, and since they found out I was in the process of moving, they wouldn't cover it since technically they can claim I wasn't living there. Never mind the fact that I was, in fact, still living there...

Renter's insurance is pretty cheap though in my experience the deductible is a b.
Of course now all the little crap has been stolen, so the next time we should clear and be able to make a claim.
Another good reason to keep everything clean is so the PD can lift prints. We're pretty bad housekeepers here at Chez Trevor (mostly that's my fault), so we had too much dust on most of our surfaces to get a good print.

Oh man, I'm sorry to hear that. But if you are going to buy to get a replacement iMac and don't have any student discounts or anything, I can probably help you out with employee pricing. Let me know.

I have seen Mac Cubes, Mac big-azz displays, Mac silver G4 towers, etc shortly after they came out, at flee markets. There's one in Livermore this weekend and at De Anza college next weekend, and I'd not be surprised to see a new iMac g5 there.
Beer-induced hackerly stroke of inspiration: Every computer has a unique address called the MAC address. I wonder if there's a way to search the net for your stolen comp's MAC address when the new "owner" goes on the net with it?

In a word, no.
At the very most, it may propagate as far as their ISP if they use *DSL in bridge mode. A MAC address is a layer 2 address, non-routeable, and used only for the extent of the computer's local area-network (typically an Ethernet and any networks it might be bridged to). It's all layer 3 after that.
By analogy, it would be like knowing your bike's serial number. It's only useful if you can get close enough to read the bottom bracket shell.

If you have registered the computer with Apple, they have you documented as the owner. You should call them and let them know that it was stolen. Then if the stealers call in for support, there is a chance it makes it back to you. I've seen several returned that way.

that is why i tell homeless people to get a job! its not that hard, if i can get a job...i have two full sleves, almost full leg sleves, knuckles, and half my neck tatooed!!! then anyone can get one, they just dont want a job cause they can make "enough money to get by" from begging... F that! this one time i saw a guy with one of those signson the side of the street..i was sittin gat a red light and i guess his day fro begging was over, casue he put the sign down walked across the street looked around... and hopped into his SUV!!! i was like WTF? so yea needless to say i dont ive money to strangers any more...my dad's friend... tried to give this one homeless guy some work to do for him for money or food or whatever .. and the guy told him no, he could make more money standing there out in the street!!!!
sorry all your stuff got stolen that really sucks.. but at least you still have your bike!!!!
