KISSENA Velo...

I posted this question under another thread and received no responses...maybe someone else can answer:

Does anyone have info on the Kissena Track? I grew up not far from there and used to rip around the track on my Raliegh Chopper (which wasn't vintage at the time, it was brand new). - Enough aging myself, anyway...
It was always open and anyone could get on the track and ride, except when there were "official" races...is it still the same, or are there certain hours/days/etc..
Are there rules as far as racing? When I raced road many moons ago, I had to get a CAT4 (??I think??) license, then advanced to a 3 (or other way around?)
Thanks in advance.

that website is confusing. I mean, it lists specific events, but other than that, is it just free game? How busy is it throughout the day?

yeah, the kissena website is kind of hurting. To be honest, I'm not sure about the general public hours because when I go, I know that there's going to be racing or that there's people there that have gotten a permit from the parks dept. to train.
To get the true low-down on the rules and whatnot, I would get in touch with John Campo. Figure out how. I don't feel comfortable posting his phone # here. Or you can PM Msngr or Ceya. They probably know the skinny too. Or, even better, you can just come on a Wednesday night between 6p and nightfall and watch some races and talk to the official guys yourself.

G'luck.

Thanks...from the photos, the track looks great, not lumpy asphalt like when I was a kid...lol.
Anyway, I shot an email with those questions and will post a response as soon as I get one.

definately progress made in my future trip there. I'm moving back to CT soon, and the trip is probably worth it if I can plan out a day of riding. I like riding with a pack, but I think I'd be stoaked to show up to an empty track, sort of like using an empty skating rink (if hockey's your dig). Can't wait to make it there.

Kissena is a public park where anyone can ride. there are races wednesdays around 530pm.5-10$ to enter, helmet, taped and corked dropbars , spandex and strong legs required . bring gloves to save your fingers in crashes.
