HELP:Fixed gear for a beginning bicyclist

Hi Guys
just started back into biking with a (cheap )18 speed from the neighborhood Target . Recently moved to Memphis which had a good number of trails (both paved and non paved). Rode both the pista ( the low model, fixed gear) and gary fisher zebrano . The experience was quite. I lke the stability of the zebrano, compared to pista( also the positioning of the rider head). I also like the pista , believing it would be more challenging, a more experiencing in the long run. However the I had not rode a bike steadily for 15+ years, wondering if the fixed gear should be for more experience rider/ novice and advanced than a new beginner. My plan is do mostly pavement riding on the trails, for enjoyment and building up my matchstick legs( I am 40,220, 6'3). anyone experiences or thoughts greatly appreciated

Go for it. It'd be better than getting used to a single speed / freewheel and then switching to fixed.

You just have to ask yourself if you are really prepared for pedalling all the time. Really, you never think about it after a few rides - I was out for 30 miles a few times and when home, it never occoured to my legs that they hadn't coasted. Nor my mind, really. Just wear cycling shorts untill you get used to riding again, because you rarely stand on a fix, and can't coast to stand on the pedals for butt relief.
