Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

go as far as you can and walk when it really hurts; or when you just cant move forward anymore.

We can still race amongst ourselves! Not only will the ride be fun, but part of the challenge is getting through the crowds.

so its just a loop through city streets, without the cars? i have no problem with paying the $20, but whats to stop people from just riding the streets anyways? i live right near the 'incredible taylor st. hill'

man, i try to do the fillmore hill every now and then coming up from the marina area... those last two blocks are so steep there are stairs for the sidewalk. i usually try to see how many houses i can get past on that first super steep block before running the rest of the way up on the stairs.

still sounds like fun though. man 8 is early for a sunday :/
does anyone know how many hours theyre letting people ride the course?

Sounds like it would be a lot of fun, but I just found out that I'll be in San Diego for a wedding.

sounds kind of fun, but why not save your $20 for beer and just go to critical mass?

It's climbable. You just need to not be running "mission gearing".

"mission gearing" that's why i live here; no hills and nice weather. i'm thinking maybe 60" should do the trick.

or am i dreaming?

I used to climb that hill three or four times a week, back when I worked at city cycle. 42/17.

Of course, my knees were only 18 back then.
