Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Did I understand you right you got fixed gear hub out of an exercise bike, I'd like to hear more about this. Is it built with reverse threading for the lockring?

i'd wonder about the weatherproof-ness (i guess that's a word) of the exercise bike hub.

it's a really unique idea though. i hadn't ever thought of that before.

Yes ,the one shown is a steel chrome union brand fixed gear with lock ring. These were used on old columbia ex.cycles.The schwinn ex.cycles used a Atom?(french) alum Fixed with lock ring.Check out all the goodwill stores! And don't forget the headbadges of both brands, the boy scout handle bars on the columbia, all the cad plated nuts and bolts and the nearled rim on the schwinn are sought after by collectors--think ebay and get the hub free!---sam

Both (Schwinn and Columbia) use 36 spokes.Spacing was not a problem for this project because I cut and brazed just about every thing on this frame including taking out the old bridge re-spacing the dropouts to keep the stays stright and adding a new bridge closer to the wheel.
Spacing on this hub is right at 115(if I measured that correct)By replacing the lock nuts with slimmer ones could be 110 or use washers/ spacers for 120 with no problem---enough axle(solid) to cover---sam

Schwinn ex cycle were the old style--gold in color.Don't really know what else to say--except they have wheel covers and you may not be able to see the hubs good--look at the sprocket and lock ring etc.- to see if quality hub or cheap junk--sam
