DC Street pirates: Schnapps-Smuggler Sprint Series

After the huge success of the Tri-State Margarita ride the other week, we're back again.
And as The Rum Runner relay has been postponed for now, we plan to go ahead with our alternate event. And so, without further ado,

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

COME ONE COME ALL!!
any DC area riders feeling up to a good ride on friday let your voices be heard.
the 13th annual Schnapps-Smuggler Sprint Series will be held this friday, 6pm

We openly welcome riders of all shape, size and type (pirates and non alike)
and in no way do we wish to imply that the smuggling of schapps confers propper rider status.

so break out your bottles and get ready to pillage
we ride on friday people.

Ah,, good man. Good man.
Shame you can't make it back in time.

Have no fear though! In your absence our numbers have grown and upon your return we will throw a great feast to welcome you back into our fold. There's no bond stronger than a drunken pirate's. You are one of ours.

And to all ye scurvy dogs looking for the buried treasure,
Riches beyond your wildest dreams lay waiting for you this friday.
Come early and come thirsty, it should be a good time.

Really though,
I just hope to avoid another "grass in mouf" senario.

Frag! I won't be able to get off early this week, and I'll be on the pager,so count me out. I'll never be a Pirate as long as this evil little black box hangs around my neck.

Next week's CM,plus a three-day-weekend. Any plans for next week?

I'd like to show, but I'll be out of town. That's what you get for planning things on the weekend. There's no reason drink-riding events can't happen Monday-Wednesday.

Well, I'll be there though I'm not real sure what to expect. This will be my first time to one of these things so I won't know any of you. I'll be the guy with this bike and I'll bring my camera.

Good morning people.
what a beautiful day no?
Who's pumped about this evening
show of hands here..
*raises hand*

Sadly, I have a feeling that today is going to drag on forever.
meetings meetings email meetings meetings email.... sheesh
what was i thinking with this office stuff.. all i want to do is ride.

Listen, for those of you coming out tonight.
From the response I've been getting it looks like this ride is going to have about the same attendance as the Margarita relay in that I expect about 7 to 10 people to show.
Hey thats cool! At least this way we'll know if we drop someone

Seriously though, i'm looking forward to it.
I mean, its not every night that I get to drink with friends and ride like a madman.
....
....
well not every night
And there are a few new people that are going to come out!
OUR NUMBERS GROW!!

Justin, thanks for bringing your camera. I totally forgot mine.

So have a good day my brothers and sisters.
Remeber. 6pm. 14th and K.
See you on the streets

I wish I could come. The Margarita relay was much fun and I plan to "Ride for the Rum"
On a side note when my girlfriend introduce me to people she tells them I'm in a pirate gang. How cool is that.

Wish I could make it. Heading to Richmond to play a show with a band that last played together in 1990. Gig is tomorrow, but someone got the clever idea that maybe we should practice once before playing in public for the first time in 15 years. So we are doing that tonight.

Next time, for sure.

And Tink--Thanks again for the personal invite. I think this group probably needs some Old Pirates ... y'know, to "rob I."

god thats funny.

well, I would like to answer on behalf 'o me maties when I say no.
Thats just crazy talk.

Something like what you wear, or what kind of bike you have, or any points of contention just don't matter. The whole I'm better/cooler/hipper than you deal is bull****. What does matter is that you're there and you're riding. That's what counts.

Now on a personal note. I always wear the bike shorts. you have to. but i wear them underneath my other clothes - Clothes that I wouldn't mind going into a crowded bar wearing. I guess its a preference thing. And in general, I like to embody the concept of the "street pirate" as best as I can (with the marauding and pillaging and such), and for me its tough to do that in my full lycra get-up. I save that for my race day and my girlfriend.

HOWEVER, once again I stress, that's just me. There are all sorts of people that wear all sorts of things. Its up to you and whatever you're comfortable riding in and not just riding, but like tonight, what you feel are good schnapps drinking clothes.

word

*pout*
quit your pointy shoed pouting chimbles.
you got nothing to be upset about.
we saved the rum runner rally for you
hurry back soon though! wish you could be here.

quite the contrary Placid Casual, this snapshot was taken early in the evening prior to the partaking of smuggled schnapps. i can assure you that the mindless marauding and barenjaeger induced plundering didn't happen until several hours later.

one of the things i enjoy so much about organzing these rides is seeing who actually ends up showing. and although a small group, with fixers, gearheads, sspeeders and even a tandem representing the tri-state community, I was suprised at how well we held it all together. It felt right.

(memorable) highlights for the record:

- setting the pace with trusty cans of sparks in the park
- DC_emily (her devilish taunting and mysterious sister)
- justin79 killing the fountain with his camera
- our bicycle sculpture and the critics' raving reviews
- riding hard through the mean streets with a tandem in tow... (woot!)
- brownbagging barenjaeger and sneaking schnapps on the sidewalks
- poopncow and rincewind's german double entendre debate over a "can opener"
- lessons from a master ,,, "swave dave"
- the dancing with strange women at the wonderland ballroom
- finding out network1 knows people on every corner
- chasing mutant dc rats through the square

so listen, we all had a great time made it home safe.
and even though this picture has been posted a few times,
i wanted to fill in the gaps for any of you wondering who all these people are.

see you on the streets me maties
