giving up the road bike?
I have a fixed gear that I ride all the time. Since getting it my road bike has had little to no attention, only when the fixed was out of service. I have another frame here, plus an old ratty fixed wheel, that I could easily put in working order to have a second working bike around.
Is there any real good reason to keep the road bike around? I feel like if I get rid of it I'll miss it but I could use the cash. How about everyone else on here? Do you have a road bike laying around "just in case... something"?

well what is it? If it's nice, get rid of it. You could use the money for stuff you'll actually use.
If you only expect to get $30-50 out of it's sale, keep it. It's not going to hurt you to have it around.

I was just thinking the same thing but roadie is a nice old Ciocc and I love it and would hate to see it go. I will keep it for sentimental reasons and the occasional ride

I have some relatively no-name bike that I might be able to get $150 for because it's in good working condition. It is a Sprint, I think. Or a Claridge. I don't know which is the bike name and which is the model, to be honest.
I also don't have a lot of room... but I do like having it just to have. I also have an old Motobecane frame that I could probably part with. After that it's just the roadie, the fixed, and that other Peugeot frame.

You could make the extra (geared) road bike a cargo bike with a FreeRadical. Get a Cetma rack for the front, and you can haul all your groceries for a month on that beast.

I'd keep it - you never know when you want to go on a longer hilly route. You may know of not such routes today, but as soon as you give it up, you find some folks invitig you on one.

I was having the same dilemma, but I've decided to ship it to my parents house in Cali so when I go back for vaca or whatever, I'll have a bike there I can ride. SoCal is much better for road biking so it's a good backup there instead of sitting in my living room taking up space.
I'd say keep your cuz you really never know when the mood hits or if a friends's in town they can use it too.

I know I am debating on the same thing right now. I currently have 2 road bikes a older steel one with Shimano 105 tripple which would be good for touring down the road. So why keep my BP stealth full CF road bike with Campy Record, its a beautiful bike but I could sell it and use the bike to build a Single speed Mountain bike

Same prob here, but easier - two roadies that don't get none. Selling off the one that'll fetch more.

I say keep it, unless you really never plan to do that kind of cycling again. I got my first road bike after I started riding fixed. The fixed is the workhorse, I love it, I use it everyday. However, going on rides with friends is a lot of fun, and I don't know anyone except my brother who regularly rides fixed, or would even consider going on a long fixed ride with me, and he's in a different state now. So I got the roady for social reasons. Also, since I don't drive, it's nice to have a backup incase I am in a rush and something goes tragically wrong.

I guess you have good points for keeping it, and I think I will. I need to free up some space in my room though, I guess I should get rid of the motobecane frame, or even the other peugeot once I stick the wheel on it, and limit myself to two bikes. But I am a packrat, and when it comes to stuff I like I'm even worse, and don't want to part with any of it!
All of this is packed into a one bedroom apartment... I actually am pretty good about keeping it all out of the way but once I put wheels on the other peugeot it's going to be out of control.

i have a roadbike thats about a size or two too big, and that keeps me riding the fixed gear almost exclusively. i'm thinking about buying a smaller frame and switching everything onto it though
