Tap n' dye b.b.

So I got my Bareknuckle about a month ago and the guy told me to bring it in if it needs a re-threading in the BB shell. The threads could get burrs on them after other threads going through them. After getting my BB I noticed why he wanted me to come in for him to put a tap to it and clean er' up. The threads on the bottom bracket should glide on smoothly? Is it common for anyone else?

honestly, i'm a little confused, both as to what you're saying and what your question is, but...

it's recommended that you use a lot of grease or some thread-lock on your BB. and if you want to be perfect, then yes, you should tap your BB shell threads before you install. however, in my experience, installing a BB always gets pretty tight, especially towards the end. also, BB shell taps cost like $1000000.


anyway, just make sure you've got the threading direction right, and make sure you don't crossthread. if it's tight, it's tight.

It's not uncommon to face and chase the threads on a new BB shell. In fact, it's officially recommended procedure though you can usually get away not doing it so long as you grease it liberally and thread slowly and by hand.
