Rant! Rant!
hey, this isnt at any particular person or really at any group of people...so with that i just have to throw it out there...im tired of people stripping classic road frames of cassettes and groups only to turn them back around on craigslist. this is not the same rant as "im tired of people grinding off the braze on's!" nah, nah....i just like to collect 80's and 70's road bikes and now its (sort of) becoming harder to just find an easy going complete. i actually like the cool (when its on the downtube) shifters and groups. i understand its a free market and its ok to try to make a buck by stripping the hub down and rebuilding it to singlespeed.....but if you are planning on turning the bike around on the market at least INCLUDE the freaking cool goodies that were stripped off......thanks.

but doesnt this mean that tons of stripped parts are probably being discarded as junk, which means you could pick em up on the ultra-cheap? unless they go to junkyards, i guess

Chances are the person you want to buy crap off of still has all the parts sitting in their room, going to waste. Just ask them if they have the original groupo, they'll probably give it to you for pennies.

I agree. I love old 70's iron and hate to see perfectly good stuff
getting stripped for any reason. I expect not too many people to
agree, though

I had a dream last night and road bikes conversions were all the rage. Old track frames were being modified for gears, shifters, brakes and cables and were the only for sale thing on craigslist.

yup yup. but ive come to find that i have a particular taste for the lugged 80's trek frames....those are very understated and the geometry is completely sickening. if i can find another 760 or even a 560 i would damn near find a way short of stealing from mom to cop it.
