--I'm hoping this thread can stay here, as I want the input and vast knowledge of fixie riders. --

Anyhow, as some of you may know, I went to SF about a month ago. I've used a Chrome Citizen bag for a while, and have recently wanted something bigger. While I was in SF, I SWEAR I saw a Chrome Metropolis, that was Royal blue, with an orange stripe/liner. The only 2 blue colors that Chrome makes, are Royal, and Navy, and Navy was way to dark for this bag. The strange thing about this bag, though I didn't really give it a good look over when I saw it, was that the material seemed "stiffer" than my other bag. The Cordura seemed a bit more stiff. Other than that, everything seemed the same.

Anyway, I had a blast in SF, and went home. I wanted that color, but I didn't see it on Chrome's website, so I called them, and they told me they didn't make that color combination... I told him I was darn sure I saw one in the store in SF, and he said I must have been mistaken.

Oh well, I would just have to find another color to settle on.

So, on to today. I had to go up north again, for business, and I purposely passed down south thru SF so I could hit up the store I saw the bag in, hoping it was still there. It wasn't, and I was sad...

I walked down to another store, (all the stores on Stanyan, close to Haight) and saw, THE BAG.

Holy crap, where did this come from?

There were some slight differences between this bag, and the other ones next to it. (There was a bright orange one, with a white stripe/liner that I seriously considered... A bit too bright though...)

The Cordura was stiffer, and the back of it, of the material, not the tarp liner, is "white-ish/whiter" than the other bags. Most of the Chrome bags have the Cordura material covered with a water-proofish looking stuff, but the color of the Cordura comes thru. This bag, while the Cordura material looks very similar, has a whiter backing on it, AND, it has a "grid" of "diamond" shape things.

Seriously, I must be sounding crazy... I'll post pictures when I get my camera back tomorrow.

Anyway, I asked the store guy, and told him the story, and he said that they just go down to the Chrome outlet store, and buy them, and bring them back. He said they got it recently.

Also, this bag was marked $10 dollars cheaper than the other ones.

My though, was that they were older stock, and made using a different material, and aren't made anymore, hence the Chrome store guy saying that they don't make that color.

So, I bought the bag, and it's sweet, and I can't believe I got the obnoxious color that I wanted.

Anyway, thanks for listening. And if anyone can shed any light on why there are these slight differences, I'd appreciate it.

I believe you bought a factory second or a one-off that didn't turn out right on the factory floor. Chrome used to sell these so-called "seconds" (but really they just didn't come out right with the colour, etc) on their site. I'm guessing that's what you have.

Hmm.. I guess I was thinking pretty much on those lines. It does seem to be completely perfect, in the "performance" aspect of it.

I'm curious about the material though. It seems to be a different material altogether. It's similar to the regular Cordura, but not exactly the same.

No one's seen this thing, or one similar to it?

Thanks again,

Okay, here's pics.

Here is just the main bag.

Here, if you look closely, you can see the "diamond" shapes I was talking about.

And here, is the "diamonds" from the inside.

The outer looks like rip-stop cordura - a thinner but tough outer. Looks like a one-off to me or maybe a special limited run. Nice score.

That's pretty sweet. I guess it does make sense for it to be "rip-stop" because of the little diamonds. Just like those new Glad trash bags.

And it does appear to be a little thinner than my other Chrome.

It's a sweet bag though. I totally dig the color.

chrome also sometimes makes limited runs of special color schemes, i.e. they made about 50 bags that were this awesome hunter's camo, the kind that looks like branches as opposed to the popular military style. they're never announced on the website but every so often they'll pop into the store.

Yeah, I saw that hunter's camo at the store too. Pretty *****in'. I'm not into camo though, but it looked nice.
