Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

SurlyMessenger - Hawaii - RIP?

Checking my list-o-blogs this morning, I saw this post:

https://surlymessenger.blogspot.com/2....html#comments

Anyone know if this is really a hoax, or if he was hit, or what? I couldn't find any news articles in a short search, but that isn't really surprising, since bike fatalities aren't always covered in the news...

I'm posting here, because I'm pretty sure that I found his blog through a link in someone's sig here, but can't remember whos...

Oh ****! I haven't read the blog lately but I did follow it for quite some time. I really hope this isn't true.

that's a high-speed road, at least the traffic treats it as such, and in good Hawaii style, it's basically a concrete maze. One of the more thoroughly paved areas in a state noted for paving everything over. Let's hope this is a hoax, the guy's alive, and takes a u-lock to the moke who posted the hoax.

Completely false. I just called his dispatcher-my former dispatcher. He was at work today. Who knows if he posted it or not.

might have been his way of ending a blog? like killing off a charactor in a play? I don't mean to make light of this, but maybe the blog became to real, or to fake?

It's a sucky way to do it - Hawaii's a sucky place, the most dog-eat-dog place I've seen and I've been around.
