I am looking at a couple of monocogs and I was wonder what you guys and gals thought of them.
Here is the details:
It is the 19 inch, steel version (CrMo) rigid complete bike. It has a Bontrager front rim laced to an xtr front hub, rear is a just built (300-400 miles) Sun Ryno lite laced to a shimano DX 36 hole, 18 tooth rear cog. This is a freehub cassette style so you buy cogs instead of freewheels for it. Also comes with Avid speed dial levers and single digit 5 calipers, 175mm cranks with a 5 bolt chain ring 34 tooth comes with it. This is also a non-disk version 03 model year if I remember right. It is in great shape with the usuall small paint chips. I bought it to try out single speed and it has served its purpose, as I now have two SS sitting in the garage right now. Pics are for this one. He wants $350 or so for it.
I also had a guy say that he has a monocog that has one season of use and he wants $175 for it. I think this is a killer deal and will probably get this one, but I have no details YET or pics so I will have to see what kind of shape it is in and what year.
Both of these bikes are located in the same area and that is about 3 hours away from me.
Please let me know what your opinion is. Thank you
It's worth whatever you think its worth. If i were you I would test ride the two bikes too see if you like it. I have a couple of monocogs and they are real good bikes. Monocogs range used from $100 to $600 depending on parts. Just the basic monocog with basic parts should be somewhat cheap used. So depending on what you want to spend and how the bike rides . I would get the bike that you think is the best price for the money. Have a good night.
Well a little update on the one that didn't have details. Here is what he said.
The bike is stock except for the seat (original was
uncovered plastic bmx seat I rode once and threw out).
I'm keeping the stem that's in the photos but will
give you the original redline stem that came with it.
Also I'm keeping the tires that are on the bike now,
but will give you the irc mythos xc from my other
Everything on the bike is Redline brand except:
Brakes and Levers (Tektro)
Rims (Alex DH 19)
Chain (Sram pc-48)
I just repacked the rear hub, trued up the rims and
dialid in the brakes.
I am really liking the components on the other bike better, but it would be nice to have disc tabs but I don't think I would ever upgrade to discs. I am trying to get the other bikes price lower but I will keep
Do you think this is one is a 2002 if it has disc tabs?
The 2004 also has Disc Hubs. And cartridge bearings. Take into account that the only "real" upgrades that the older one has are the rear hub (to a cog system), I'd say go for the 2k4. Cheaper, newer, easier to upgrade.
