Huh, I always thought that repacking was just re-greasing, adjusting cone tension and whatnot. I thought rebuilding was replacing the bearings.

And the bearings aren't in bad shape by any stretch, I just mixed the sides up...

I dont want to suggest I know everything about NJS. Someone else here knows more than me. It could be that 36H DA -> NJS definitively. But knowing what I dont know, its better not to misrepresent them, yaknow?

true, but NJS spec does call for no less than 36 spokes. you're right on with the second part of your statement. no stamp, no NJS.

just for the sake of asking: what difference would a stamp make? i mean, technically speaking, is there any difference between a 36 hole DA h/f hub that is not stamped versus one that does bare the stamp? i'd think it came down to something less arbitrary and more technical. different bearings? different anything?

the difference is, when selling on ebay you can write njs in the descrition and the hubs will be listed when people search for "njs" …then you can get more money for them.

i have a dura ace high flange 36h in the front, and 32 hole in the rear, both laced to mavic open pros. they are super smooth, and they work fine for me on the street, but i'm not a messenger.
