do you think kevlar bead is worth a extra $15? i mean i hate flats but is it worth it?

What are you using now? I don't see how kevlar bead will stop flats unless you mean kevlar belted.

Yeah, a kevlar bead is useful because it weighs less than a wire bead and it can bend - making it easier to store/carry around. It does absolutely nothing in terms of flat resistance.
A kevlar belt on the other hand does prevent flats.

i had that tire on my rear wheel (2 months) before i switched it for some spiffy yellow kenda's. i liked it a lot and had no issues with flats. i didn't think they were that expensive though since i paid ~$20 in denmark.

ya but i just got the new catalog and they have wire bead for 19.99 and just wonder if its worth the extra 15 bucks for the kevlar i dont really care about weight i just wonder if there is some other reason to go with kevlar.

actually, they use a higher thread count on the kevlar beaded ones, which generally means better tire, especially from Vittoria.

I paid extra for the kevlar, but the city streets I ride on mostly are littered with broken things waiting to let the air out of my tires. I only have kevlar on my commuter, my other bikes are without it. No real difference in the amount of flats I get. I always seem to get them at the worst time possible, but is there ever a good time to get one?

I have the Rubino Intrepids (not the pros) on my road bike and on my fixie. So far between the two I've only had one flat. Looking at the rear wheel of my fixie I can see 6 or 7 deep punctures in the tire, but clearly only one of them went all the way through.
Both the intrepids and the pros are kevlar belted and flat resistant. The only difference I'm aware of is a) the pros are folding tires (kevlar bead) and b) the pros have a higher tpi (I think 2x as much).
If you are looking for a cheap flat-resistant tire, the Intrepids are really nice. The Pros will "ride" a little nicer because of the lower weight and higher thread count (at least, I assume, I've never used the pros) and still be flat-resistant.
