How to support frame during painting?
So I'm about to start painting a frame for a conversion project and was wondering how you actually support the frame during painting. Do you do one side and then the other? Try and hang it from something or other?
Being in a New York apartment I was going to do it on my roof or something so hanging it would be difficult but I would probably figure something out.

put a broom stick through the head tube or BB shell, and hang it by that. Or support it (the broomstick) on sawhorses or 2 ladders or some similar pair of support structures.
It's not a bad idea to switch the hanging point between coats, as holding it in one position while spraying tends to facilitate overlooking areas that are out of sight in a given position. i.e. if you can't see the bottom of a tube easily, you might miss it, so flip it over, and it becomes the top of the tube

if you are painting it without the fork you could string somehting through that tube and hang it. (sorry I dunno the name for the tube, but I'm talking about the one that the fork and stem goes in)

hello
I use an old seatpost held by a repair stand method. Sure, my repair stand is multi-colored from all the paint projects, but I can turn and angle that frame every which way so I won't miss a spot.

There's a garage in my apartment building (NYC). That's where I'm planning to do the deed. Wire hangars from the pipes in the roof.

I just hung mine under my proch from a coat hanger through the fender eyelets near the dropouts. Worked fine for me. I like that broomstick through the headtube idea. Makes me want to ppaint my frame again! Hmmmmm.....

I ran a piece of rope through the headtube, and suspended the frame from a rafter in my garage. This way, I could elevate the frame to a good level in order to get underneath it to paint as well. I used the HT w/o switching to hanging by the bottom bracket (as someone else said, to change perspective) b/c I had the BB shell stuffed with paper towels to keep the threads clean.
