Nitto Technomic in French bikes

Just wondering if the Nitto Technomic Stems will work on my french bike. My original stem says 22.00 on it....this stem says 225...no way to sand that down right?!:(

Here is the stem description:

you're going to have a tough time finding a 22.0 stem.
just sand that sucker down

baxtefer 10-17-05 09:06 PM

oh yeah. the 225 refers to the quill *length* not diameter
the diameter is 22.2mm

yes I figured...I will sand it down

Are you sure you want a stem that tall? Those stems are usually used by people looking for a very upright seating positions. That thing is probably going to be extending about 10-15cm up out of your headtube.

I would probably look for a stem with a more normal quill lenght unless you want to be sitting straight up.

I love me some technomic stem. Lots of extension can give you a great, very comfortable riding position.

Back to the orginal topic, I had a frame that took that size. Looked all over the place for a cheap stem to put in it. Finally gave up and dumped the frame. It wasn't very good anyway. This hasn't been too helpful, though.

Plus not all Technomics are gargantuan. I have one or two from the 70s and they're quite normal looking.

I sanded down a 22.2 diameter Cinelli stem to fit into the 22.1 steering tube of a beautiful chrome Peugeot fork. International cooperation at its finest! It took me about 20 minutes, I think, with 60 grit sandpaper. Remember to change the sandpaper a lot -- it gets clogged very fast, and then you're just wasting effort.
