I can't find a decent [edit] threadless [/edit] stem for 1" steer tube and oversize bar clamp so I'm looking to stems with shims to work on 1" steer tubes. Anyone run a similar setup? Any issues with slippage or problems from massive amounts of torque that you usually exert on a track bike?

why not get an adaptor? http://www.businesscycles.com/tstem-adapt.htm

Err... no it's 1" threadless steer tube. Sorry, should have stated that.

I think zerobug is talking threadless. he's got a threadless 1" steerer tube and wants to use a 1 1/8" stem with shim (with an OS handlebar clamp).
I also have a 1" threadless stem, and want to get one with more drop, but it's tough to find 1" threadless stems (with a lot of drop). I think the shims work fine, but have no experience with them. |

most 1 1/8" stems come with a shim for 1" steerer tubes.
no problem. |

shim it.

you're worrying too much about this. maybe there are a few exceptions out there, but most any shim will work with any stem.
assemble it and take it for a gentle test ride. if something feels wonky, have your shop take a look. signed, a guy who, for about four years, rode a quill-to-1" clip stem converter with a shim so he could use 1 1/8" stems (and just tonight, added a beer can shim so his slightly smaller nitto bars would work with his slightly larger 3t stem). |
I have shim that came with my salsa stem. makes a 1 1/8 into a 1". Never used. If you pay for postage I can send it to you. PM if interested.
