Favorite Shoes for riding in clips/straps
What do you like? Sambas? Vans? Running shoes? Calf-high Doc Martens?
I tried running shoes - sucked, couldn't get in easily with all the nubbies on the tread. Using Vans skater shoes ringht now, but those are kinda fat and the laces always come untucked. I'm thinking about Sambas or low-top Chuck Taylors now.
Any suggestions?

until now i've only used my low top all-stars, but they don't last real long (then again they never did). i would like to try the sambas though.

I really like Addidas Sambas, have worked great for me and the while some hate the long tounge on them, I find it works great as deflector shield when riding in the rain. They also seem to last pretty well.
I have big feet and have no problems getting in and out of clips with 'em.
However, wish I could find something equally good that wasn't sweatshopped, so if anyone has a rec for a more ethical shoe I'm all ears.

unfortunately many ethically-made products are expensive--a clash of priorities. if you can afford 'em, rock em...

has some converse knock-offs. not a bad price either, and i wonder if they're made better than cons.
(just google union-made clothing)

Duegi touring shoes, with a hard hard sole and no cleats.
Look for Carnac forclaz and carlit.
They are very similar to my Duegis and will be on the short list once the duegis are destroyed.

I ride in whatever I happen to be wearing, but I do find shoes with smooth soles are easier to get in.
Combat boots and Chucks go in smooth. Hiking boots, and Running shoes are a bit trickier. Big MTB style clips are easier than old style metal road clips where clunky shoes are involved.

I go with high top Chucks in several complementary colors. If you use those 3/4 length innersoles, they give you pretty good support walking around and mine hold up well, if you don't mind a little shredding here and there.
Below about 40º F, I wear my heavy leather hikers, which are a lot warmer, super stiff and I pretend that the extra weight helps me leverage the peddles. I use shorter laces in all my right shoes to avoid ankle strangulation.

Platform stilettos. Smooth, thicker, stiffer soles, high-ass heel. Seriously!
But otherwise, thin-soled sneakers. No particular brand preference. I have a pair right now that have an elastic/velcro closure that kind of zigs across the top of the shoe and they work great.

I personally love my Macbeth "Eliot", but I also love riding in Puma Speedcat's.
The Puma H Street's looked perfect...but sadly I don't like riding in them.

i ride in whatever i happen to be wearing, but the shoes that feel the nicest are an old pair of new balance biking shoes. they are real slim and have a stiff sole. the toes are even reinforced where the clips touch the shoe. they go in and come out easy, and look fresh too. if i can find the make number, i'll post it, but they are extremely hard to find as they have been out of production for 20-30 years. i got lucky stumbling upon a pair in my size for a measley $15.

Thanks for the suggestions... on a different but related subject, anyone have experience with those PowerGrip straps? The ones that go from the front og the pedal to the back and are not for use with clips.

I've been interested in trying these (the classic)
https://adbusters.org/metas/corpo/bla...aker/home.html
they are non-sweatshop along with some other interesting perks too. So far I've only used running shoes though and I don't really like them, but finding something my size is hard.
