Fixie Cross part Deux

Yes, the saga continues, or maybe the ill judgment, who's to say.

Second weekend of racing cyclocross on a fixed. (IRO Jamie Roy w/cross fork)

This week was at the Major Taylor Velodrome. Start and finish was on the track (1-1/2 lap start, 1/2 lap finish). This, as I thought it would made a huge bonus to the event in terms of class. For those who don't know the place, there is a significant apron on the infield, almost the width of the track surface itself.

Windy and wet conditions made the grass sections and the two uphill sections pretty interesting and made me wish for a bit smaller gear, as I kept it the same as last week. The grass just sucked the soul right out of your legs. Barrier crossings were much improved, as I didn't feel like a snake trying to jump rope.

Comment of the day as I rolled out of the drome to go to the car and past a group of onlookers, "that boy just ain't right".

As to the results, last week was 27th overall and 5th in beginners. This week was 13th overall, and 9th in 4/5 class, as there were some master' s riders in our group. Improvement, and the next is in two weeks at the same location. I'll be there, with smaller gear in hand.

nice job on the standings. a few others from around here are doing CX fix/ss this year too. You should try and swing up here for one of the series races. Check with stickerguy for more info on the local 411.

Sounds like a plan [165]. Perhaps the anchor will be knifing through the water by then as well ;)

holy eastern sweetness!
bring that schit!

hey - what's yer local velo? MT?
when do the doors open? I gotta swing out there before too long!

Yes, Major Taylor is my local. About an hour fifteen from me. I'll check with them again to see when they officially close up and reopen.

And for those aspiring college entrants who love the track, Marion College is 1/4 mile up the road from the track and they have their own team and coach. Ah, to step back in time . . .

Hey Auk,

Is there a website that has info on cross races in Indy? I'd love to head
over to Indy and see what racing is like "across the border"

Oh and good work riding fixed cross

jeff

Stickerguy,

Here's the info: http://www.dinoseries.com/mtb/schedu...cyclocross.htm

If you come up, you have to run it fixed, Dave's rules :)

Joking aside, would love to have you up to join in on the fun. Single, geared, or fixed, it doesn't matter.

Sadly the Indy XC schedule looks like an exact match of the Chicago Cross Cup
so I think the only race I'd be able to make is the State Championships on Dec 10th.
I'll see what's going on and let you know if I can make it out there (60% chance).

jeff
