Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Madison Fixed Community +1

A friend helped me (/I helped a friend) make the conversion about a week ago. I did my first skid down a gentle hill on new blacktop on a rainy night. I love riding fixed. Pink front brake cable, short* flatbar is me. Say 'hi.' Love me.

*Not originally on purpose, but it looks really cool.

Walking up State street last night on the return leg of a food run, and mere hours after reading your post, I spot a grey-ish conversion with silly-narrow bars and pink cable housing. "Must be dude from Bike Forums," I think to myself.

Hi.

The nice weather bike is hibernating now, but if you see a rather nondescript black Fuji with a silver saddle, that'd be my winter ride.

Hey y'all
New to the fixed/SS here in Madison
Just finished my first build this last Sunday
White '72 Bottecchia frame w/faded ancient white fenders
Moustache bars
Brooks B5N
SUZUE hub (DA cog)
40-15
(if it wasn't so dark after work, I'd get some pics up)

I've only gotten a chance to ride it briefly on Sunday (the original Mafac centre-pull brakes are a bit scary, need adjustment)
really it's the first time I've ridden a fixie and I'm a bit tentative (not being the young stud like most of you FG blokes)... don't know if I'll be skidding right off
any tips for the first few rides? (I have a SS Freewheel on the other side)
Want to use it for my commute as well

any hoo... I'll keep an eye out for the pink

Yep, 'twas me. It was a 'manta' to begin with, but I just got done removing the decals (orange-- it doesn't go with pink). I'll keep an eye out for your fuji.

Bike polo is at 12:30 on Sundays. While the field is still nice they play on the grass. When its muddy or snowy they move to the pavement (tennis courts on top of the building on the west side of the park). They are always looking for more people to play so you all should certainly go!
