Has anyone used one of these updated Timbuk2 bags? I have a small one from about 3 years ago. The strap sucks but it looks like they fixed it. Thinking about getting a medium just to try it out again., to have a cheap bag when I don't need my large R.e. Load. It seems pretty decent for $75 for a medium.

Yeah, I tried my buddy's 2014 Classic out for a week. The strap and buckle is muchos improved over the old style; though their attachment on the side is annoying when the bag is packed. The grab "handle" annoyed me a bit when it caught on my jacket sometimes, and it's not 1000D Cordura or anything. But at $75, they're a good buy.

If I was to buy an older used road bike ( ~ +/- 100 on Craigslist), how much would decent/affordable parts cost me to make it into a decent single speed, and what parts are mostly suggested to change out if you buy a bike like this?

I just want to have a clean bike with one gear (not fixed), pursuit handlebars, little front and back brake, and seat. Aka clean and nice setup.

Nor do you have to do it all in one hit, my Europa went from basic fg conversion to full, rather nice conversion over three years with parts bought as I could afford them. I think the trick is to buy a bike that doesn't need much to start with ie, a decent quality donor bike, and convert from there.

It could be anywhere from free to $1000s depending on what you mean. It is really easy to convert a road bike into a single speed by just not shifting. One thing you should think about when you are buying this bike is whether the rear dropouts are vertical or horizontal. If they are short vertical dropouts like most modern road bikes then you will want to have a chain tensioner of some sort or an expensive eccentric bottom bracket or hub. You will also want to consider whether the bike is using 700c or 27 inch wheels. This could make a difference in cost if you want to replace them. We really need more details in order to answer your question properly. I can easily imagine spending at least another $200s on a new rear wheel and new crank to get something nice at which point you will have spent $300s and you might as well have bought a bikes direct bike.

I have a box of them.

I put a cinelli 1a stem on my pista (set up for threaded) and tightened it down all the way. But when I stand in front of the bike with my legs trapping the wheel and twist the bars the stem slips left or right. It takes a lot of pressure, but that still worries me. What could be causing this?

Putting a 1 1/8" threadless stem on a 1" threaded steerer is amazingly jackass.

The stem I have here, maybe it's not a 1a, but it's 1" with a bolt through it that attaches to the wedge at the bottom of the stem. I assumed that meant it was threadless. Am I wrong? I've been a jackass before, I could be one in this instance as well.

Looks like it's a Cinelli XE, not a 1a. My fault on misidentifying that. That should be a 1" threaded, right? It sure looks like one.

For whatever reason I read that as you putting a Cinelli Pista stem on your 1" threaded fork so I apologize for the "jackass" accusation. :lol:

Now that it's been cleared up (and I learned to read), I'm thinking you either have too much grease inside the steerer or you're just not tightening the bolt enough.

I may pick up a prologo zero ll pas off eBay new for 60. Its a flat saddle like the specialized toupe expert I had which I liked. Just looking for general input on their saddles

Will a Shimano 20 tooth freewheel require a longer chain on a kilo TT (stripper)? Don't have the bike yet but want to pick up a freewheel to be ready and found a good deal.

What is a good chain ring for a Sugino 75 crankset that will be both used in urban fixed settings and weekend shingle shpeed cross fun (or maybe some fixed cross fun) I wanted to go with Sugino Zen but a co-worker suggested it won't be quite so good for my cross plans and shedding teh mudz. I guess I could switch chainrings out when I go off-road but that ain't very practical. What should I do?
