Should I be worried about these rims?
Okay, I remember reading in a continental tire instruction thing that a certain kind of rim is dangerous and the tire can roll off if you have them at more than about 60 or 70psi. This was for the old type where the nipples came right up onto the rim, and the nipples would actually be touching the tube without rim tape. They are usually wider also. I can't really remember any more details than that but I think they were reffered to as well-base rims?
I think that these rims I just bidded on are those type so do I have anything to worry about using them with 700 X 23C tires at 120 psi?
Almost certainly the caution was against running the pressure too high on non-hook bead rims. Hook bead rims will have a lip at the edge of the rim wall that will keep a tire with a bead from easily slipping off the rim.
Given the age and the seller's response to a question, I'm guessing these are not hook bead rims.
