Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? Saddle, Blood Flow & Fertility

Hoping to preserve my ability to enjoy more than just snuggling, I was wondering if anyone has used any of more radically grooved or split saddles?

Is there a serious comfort issue?

must be good for longer rides since you let your junk ventilate. Also very good if you want to release some music without getting off the saddle.

I wear pants/shorts (normally), so unless I fall threw the weave in my American spun, 100% Cotton Denim, or forget to zip/button up I don't think that will be a problem.

Yikes! First of all, there's no established link between saddles, blood flow, and fertility. The recent NY Times article was badly researched and even their medical sources don't stand up to mild scrutiny. The quoted Dr. Goldstein actually reversed his position in 2003 after seeing the power of actually having a proper fit.

Secondly, as I recall, the main blood vessel that feeds the male reproductive organs runs laterally, not axially, so cutaway saddles don't help any... in fact, and this brings us to number three, the reduction in in saddle surface area means reduced pressure on some tissue but at the cost of increased pressure in other places. You've replaced a gentler over-all pressure on the blood vessels with a couple of places that concentrate all your weight and may pinch off the flow.

Sometimes I sit and wonder how I managed to get my wife pregnant twice during a period of my life when I was (am) riding my bike 100+ miles a week. Then the light changes and I pedal away.
