25.4mm bars in 26mm stem?
I'm planning to use my major Ts in my next bike build. Not sure how many parts may come off my conversion, but whatever frame I get I'll need a new stem. SO I'm wondering if a road standard 26mm stem will work with a 25.4 mm bar. If I go threadless I'm kinda partial to Ritchey WCS. A MTB bar will work fine with 25.4, but would likely need a shim for 1" fork. If it's quill, I shouldn't have too much trouble finding a 1" quill for 25.4 bars.
Uhm right so what was the question? Will a 25.4mm bar work ok in a 26mm stem, and/or does anyone know of a good 1"/25.4mm stem (yes I'm aware that 1"=25.4mm, but for whatever reason stems are referred to in inches at the fork end, and metric at the bar end. silly huh?)

I would shim it for now until you work out what length/angle stem you need. You can use cans, or you can buy a nice set of pre-made shims from Nitto for about 8 bones. This option gives you the best flexibility so you can run almost any stem with these bars (aside from oversized clamps).
That said, Nitto make a range of stems in 25.4 clamp dia, from their expensive NJS track stems to much more affordable road stems. My old LBS (Freewheel in SF) had Nitto road stems in 25.4 clamp diameter for about 25 bones. They don't have much drop to them but they work pretty well for me.
I've also run Nittos for a long time in old ITM quills with a 25.8 dia with no problems, though you're probably best advised to shim those too.
