Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I don't buy it. Sounds like the story of every driver who hits a cyclist

Bicyclist hurt in collision with police SUV

By Sam Wood

INQUIRER STAFF WRITER

A Camden County bicyclist was in critical condition today after colliding with a marked police vehicle overnight, officials said.

James Kershaw, 20, of Runnemede, had finished his work shift at UPS was returning home shortly after 2 a.m. today. He was riding his bicycle along the White Horse Pike in Lawnside when he apparently steered into the path of a westbound police SUV driven by Sgt. John Brown of the Stratford police, said Bill Shralow, spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's office.

Kershaw was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden where he was undergoing surgery today.

The accident remains under investigation.

I was riding to the library the other day and a cop nearly pulled out in front of me. He slammed on his brakes as I dodged his bumper. Then the ******* follows me, gets on his loudspeaker and says, " you don't have reflectors on there." I stopped and we had a conversation about 1. my lights and 2. the fact that my bike was neither made nor bought after 1975 (after which reflectors are required by the statute.) Stupid son of a *****.

I am sure the police carried out a thorough and unbiased investigation-like "oh crap better not tell em I was fiddling with the radio-I know- he steered into my path"

somehow I suspect that my version of events is closer to reality than that which will be presented in the police report

people on bikes (unless they are kids or drunk or drugged) normally tend to realise that their life is on the line and avoid steering into the paths of SUV´s

No matter how tired i am i don't fall asleep on a bicycle. If anything a ride invigorates me.

On the other hand, every single time a car hits a cyclist the driver of the car says he came out of nowhere, ie swerved into me. And the last time i looked when i was riding someplace i didn't do a whole lot of swerving.

maybe but I am still doubtful whether the police conduct a totally impartial investigation in accidents involving the police. There was a case a few years back where the police killed someone in a car accident the UK. I was looking for the details on the net but couldnt find it but I remember they took the unusual step of refusing to take any witness statements from anyone at the crash scene.

But maybe I am just an old cynic.
