Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

The lbs I most often frequent has a singlespeed from SE Bikes called the BM Flyer. Are any of you familiar with this bike? I want to add a singlespeed to my stable this bike looks promising. It feels great and is quite affordable. Any comments will be much apprecieated. Thanks, John K.

Is it this one? (Googled pic)

If yes, maybe you should ask in the MTB forum. Not many MTB-ers in here.

seems to have really long chainstays and could probably do without the curvy seat tube, especially as it seems to be set up as a DJ/Urban rig....looks like itd be a ***** to manual

Clicky clicky!

This is such a cool bike- I saw it at my LBS, played with it a little, and loved it. However, I can't justify it at all right now, but if I did find a 26" SS to be completely crucial to my life, then....

It's a GIANT BMX. cool! Just the thing to make a full grown person feel like a kid again. I have such fond memories of my old BMX which 25 years after I bought it still resides in my parent's basement. Last time I rode it I was pulling a trailer with both my kids in it around my parent's neighborhood.

I don't need a "big boy" BMX, but if I did, that would seem like a good choice. Of course I could pretty easily build one with an old MTB frame, and a cpouple of 26" rims. All the other parts could come off my old Mongoose. Anyone know where I can get a pair of 26" gold anodised drilled Arayas?

The Floval Flyer has been around for years. Before I ever got into BMX there was a Floval. They stopped making them a long while ago as well but started producing them again a few years back. I think GT and Mongoose made 26 inchers as well.

Ya, I second asking in the MTN forum. I'm pretty sure KonaRider likes SE Bikes, maybe you can get some insight there.

The fact that it has a chain tensioner makes it a no-go in my opinion. A Redline Monocog would be a much better option for an inexpensive single speed mountain bike. Better still, Redline is coming out with a 29er version next year.
