Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

craigslist craziness:
http://boston.craigslist.org/bik/119816052.html

can't believe anyone would ride this bike anywhere but where it belongs, on a track! Poster says it is an aluminium frame made by mavic, hmm, it appears to be a yamaguchi steel frame, interesting crankset, ccan anyone make out what it is? maybe an older mavic crankset? this is not my posting, but giving the guys total lack of knowledge, maybe someone here could get a pice of history by making him an offer...I have no idea how much the bike is worth...but wait there's more

perusing google, i cam across this posting on busted spoke:
http://bustedspoke.com/newsMore.php?nk=1697

is this the stolen bike?

called mavic, in haverhill, they are closed for holiday, if anyone knows mike berlinger or his email please pass this info on to him!

it's been posted in the ebay/CL thread already.
definetly a yama. definetly steel.

that's an old Mavic 631 crank.

that could very well be the stolen bike off the bustedspoke site. sure looks like it could be a 52cm too.
found? after 2 years?

the seller obviously has no idea what he has, i'm just posting this to see if anyone has contacts for mavic representatives that may be able to start some sort of investigation, i love stolen bike recovery stories!

I find it hard to believe there is more than one bike like this in the New England area. Black, all Mavic, Yamaguchi. YIKES!! Those wheels are like $5000 wholesale!

boy, you'd think that if you just waited a few months, they would have forgotten all about their stolen bike and it would be OK to sell it on CL.

Mavic Offices Broken Into
Wed Nov 5, 2003
Source: RideZine.com

HAVERILL, MA - The Mavic offices were broken into the night of Wednesday, October 15.

Among the computer equipment, TV's and cash taken, the cowards took at least two very distinct bicycles. One is a 52cm all black Yamaguchi Track Bike, equipped with all Mavic parts. The other is a Cannondale CAAD 7, Team 7-Up road bicycle. The colors are silver and green and the bike says 7-Up/Maxxis all over it and is a mid size bike, about a 55cm, with Mavic Ksyrium Elites and Shimano Ultegra/Dura Ace mix of components.

Residents of the New England area--especially in the region surrounding Mavic USA headquarters in Haverhill, Mass.--are urged to keep an eye out for anyone riding, selling, holding, buying or unloading from a big white van on the street corner the items listed above. For more information, contact Michael Berlinger at (888)466-2842.

DON'T call him. Mavic knows about it, and they're gonna handle it. If you internet dorks spook him, he'll know the jig is up and get rid of the bike.

Let Mavic and/or the cops deal with this. Don't call him. If you want the owners to get their bike back, leave this situation alone.
