Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

cycling movie night.

i'm making a list to have a cycling movie night (or two). not all fixed. so far i have as candidates...

american flyers
quicksilver
2 secondes (french-canadian film)
beijing bicycle
the triplets of belleville
pee wee's big adventure
breaking away

but i'm wondering about more stuff along the lines of lucas brunelle's stuff. what's pedal like? and red light go has mixed reviews on here...but i may go for that one as well.

on the documentary tip.

Pure Sweet Hell : a cyclocross vid. I haven't seen it but the trailer looks awesome
Pro : I thought it was kinda boring
The Hard Road: OK
The hippies riding across the country doc with the name I forgot: crappy.
It's the tour baby: I heard this was funny.

But you forgot:

Rad!

and

BMX Bandits (featuring a young nicole kidman)

Try to track down a copy of A Sunday in Hell and/or Stars and Watercarriers with The Impossible Hour.

that all reminds me of a documentary i want to track down--it's called "beasts of burden" and it's about messengers, but beyond that i don't know much.

i'm gonna go google some more websites with lists...

oh, yeah, i saw that one on another site. is it good? i mean, to be honest, i'm going to try and gather cycling and non-cycling friends alike, and watch movies that we'll all enjoy and that might even make non-cycling friends want to jump on a bike again.

gummo will not make people want to get into cycling. they may start eating their meals in the bath, but they prolly won't be compelled to hop on a bike...

i don't know... those kids are always on bikes. plus, the bmx bike with the front 16" wheel is h-o-t. plus death metal and killing cats? none sweeter.
