Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I just got hit by a car about 30 mintues ago.

And I don't know what to do. He ran and never came back, I didn't get the license number or make of the car (night time), and my bike is wrecked (not to mention my leg hurts also ).

Anyone have advice?

Take care of your leg at an urgent care center or emergency room. Then call the police and at least report it. Maybe this a**h*** was on a spree. Find out if you have insurance for personal property.

Do you have health insurance? I got hit once when I didn't, and I needed an xray. It would have cost thousands of dollars that I couldn't afford. If you need to go to an emergency room, drop an alias. Give you maternal great grandfathers name, and a street adress that doesn't exist. Worked for me! Cast and everything!

Not to mention that in view of the high cost of health care, what gbd is advising you to do is probably a felony. Now if you do it, gbd might well be an accessory before the fact, which might give you something to bargain with following your arrest.

Hey, thanks for that tip. That'll save me $610 a month in health insurance.

I have Blue Cross .

But, the ambulance said I didn't need to go to the ER, so I am still at home. The cops documented everything tht happend, but I really don't expect much to happen since I didn't give much information about the car .

I can't stop thinking about my bike. It is so gone.

Crank... gone (fell into a sewer)
Right pedal. Broken.
Back tire... taco.
Frame is bent also.
My bars are ok though : /

My bike :`(

you're right it's all generic's fault, there's nothing else that could possibly be forcing the cost of health insurance up

Check with your parents. If you lived at home when you bought the bike, it still may be covered under their homeowners insurance in the event you don't have renters insurance.

Get a copy of the police report to give to the insurance company. Hopefully, it'll be insurance with a low deductible.

If you're really ambitious, I'd take a flyer over to different auto mechanics and explain you got hit. If they have their eyes open, the ass fool that hit you will bring their car in, and hopefully, you'll be able to catch them that way.

Use that Blue Cross like a hooker in clear heels, man. I get fisted every month with all the money I pay to those con artists. This is what insurance is for! Then get something expensive taken care of, since your deductible will be all used up and you'll not have to pay a dime more.

Good luck.

Koffee

The best news is, you'll be OK. I know it sounds like something your Grandma would say, but your health is everything and you can always replace the bike. Think positive, your OK and with the parts from the bike, you'll be able to build a new one after buying a frame on ebay.

As a police officer who investigated thousands of hit and run crashes in 15 years, you will be lucky if you ever see the car again. Even if you do, since you didn't have a good description initially, there is little you can do. You can try and go to the body shops, but in my area there are hundreds and that doesn't count the guys who do stuff in their garages on their own. Plus, do you think the body shops will likely give up someone who is paying for someone who isn't? Also, I can tell you with high certainty, that the driver was probably, 1) suspended, 2) intoxicated and 3) had no insurance.
ThankGod you are basically OK. You will be sore in the morning once the adrenalin dumps is gone. Take some ibuprofen or tylenol and go to bed.

yeah, koffee is right. when moving to college, all of my apartments required renters insurance. since i was still under 23 and a full time student, that insurance transfered over. if that's the case with you, MILK IT!

If your frame is steel, it may be salvageable. Especially if it's something special.

sorry to hear about your accident. Like a few people said above, keep things in perspective. A bike is a bike. You are you. You are more valuable than your bike. That you can still think, type, and move is the good news.

On a side note, I just finished watching the movie Primer, and I'm HELLA confused. I feel slow. You mathy-engineery dorky-types would love it. Put it in your netflix que.
