buying used pista help

so i saw one of these used pistas on ebay. chris king headset, eggbeaters. sweet. i had the highest bid, but it still didnt reach the reserve. anyway, i email the guy and he sells it for 500 bucks outside of ebay.

the ebay descript says nothing about dents. i decide to pay half before and half after since i dont have much insurance since we are doing this outside of ebay.

i pay half and now i get the bike with two huge dents. neither seem to affect the trueness of the frame but he never mentioned that. i emailed him and he said i never noticed on dent, the other he should have descirbed better (he never mentioned at all). there was a pic, but too small to see the dent.

do i dikc him over?
pay less?
how much is a dented frame worth?

If the dents really bother you that much, don't d*ck him over. Be the better man. Ask him for your half of the money back and pay the postage to send it back. It's only reasonable. the time the both of you spend on packaging and what not would then be equal. If he refuses, then do what you want.

If you don't mind the dents, keep the bike but try to negotiate a slightly better rate. If the dents don't affect the ride and are purely cosmetic, $500 isn't terrible. Just the headset is $125.

funny sounds like the pista i sold a couple months ago and was on ebay recently. does it have a red headset?
i sold a pista with a ck headset and small dent in the downtube for about 400$ to a guy. a month later it was on ebay with a but it now of 625$ and reserve that was never met. i fully described the small ding in the tube, but when it came back up...no mention of the ding. wonder if it's the same bike?

Ha!!!! THAT is my old bike! like i said above, i sold it a few months ago for 425$ on ebay. I had it for about a year it used to look like this (see pic). i bought it used on ebay myself and when i got it, it had the dent in the downtube, which of course was never mentioned in the auction.
i will say, i rode that thing a lot and it was a great bike. i replaced the old bb with a nice fsa platinum one not long before i sold it.
i will warn you however, that saddle is the one i sold it with and it's the most uncomfortable saddle in the world.
i'm not sure where the second dent you mention is, but the dt one never caused any bother. ride that bike proud man!

this is too wild. that definitely is the bike, and your right, now mention of of dings at all. there is one in the seat tube and one in the downtube now. guess the guy dented it, reposted.

ive been without a bike for 3 months, so im not inclined to send it back. i guess ill try to get a better deal since i still owe him the second payment and have some leverage. your right, no mention of any dents.

do realize your sellers not the guy i bought it from. still though...even if the the dent is cosmetic (which the downtube one is imo) i would have felt bad not mentioning it im my auction. i did, and showed a close up pic of it too.
it's the pista thats been around the world...or country at least. i did have the wheels all retensioned 6 months ago or so as well. i miss that bike actually. with the ck headset and upgraded bottom bracket it rode so nice for such a budget frame. when i can afford a custom track frame i'm gonna pretty much straight copy that size and geometry. it fit me perfect.
good luck and have fun with it .

so what SB is saying is that he sold it, mentioning the dent, to someone who resold it to astrx without mentioning the dent. hmmm...that is fishy. i also agree with enlacalle, though.

and that seat, i have that on mine and it's just fine. no problems with comfort. i mean, i don't know if there's a perfectly comfortable bike saddle except maybe a brooks, but that seat has treated me fine.

sounds fishy to me, too. people that sell you stuff with issues that they clearly should have pointed out before hand are either oblivious or are trying to hide something. i'd say a scrape or two on the top tube, some rub marks here and there, etc are one thing, but actual dents? i dunno. if you can live with it, hey, thats fine, but i'd ask the guy for a reduction in the price.

I sold my Raleigh R800 columbus altec2 bike for $560. I fully disclosed that there was a dent about a size of an adult size thumb on the top tube. I thought I wouldn't get as much but it was nicely speced with rolf vector wheels and shimano 105 cranks. The seller HAD to of known about those two dents. Tell him you want 20% off.
