So what's the deal if you call it first you get to have it in your area? So Sweden got dibs before the guys that put on the SSWC 2005 could.
Did you get up here for the 05 version? I didn't ride but I was at WheelWorks (local sponsor shop) the day before and they had a huge mass of people there getting ready for the event. It really was an international event too I met several people from Ireland, England, Germany, Canada and South America (forget the country).
Edit: Corrected foolish spelering error.

I'm fairly sure "Sweeden" is actually spelt "Sweden" but if the forum consensus is the former then I'm happy to go along!
The "Sweeden" SSWC does sound like awesome fun, you're right. I can get flights really cheap from where I live - like £50 ish. I guess Philly costs a little more to get from being in the States and all...!
Just looked on expedia then, and man, you've got a hefty sum to find there! A grand to fly to Sweden is ridiculous.

Okay I got it.
We get everyone that wants to go from the States, run to one of the big airports together, steal a plane with no one is looking, bribe the air traffic controllers not to hassle us when they realize there's a strange plane flying when it's not supposed to be, and we fly ourselves over there.
Who's with me?

I suspect that if we attempted such an act, these guys would have something to say about it.
As long as we have tequilla on board, I'd be down..

damnit.. I was living in Stockholm for 3 months *last* Spring/Summer. Blargh!
But to all those interested, if you can do it, I say you should DEFINITELY go. It's a @#$%ing amazing country! Expensive, but worth every last penny.

traditionally, at the afterparty the guys from surly get people to compete in a [demolition] derby, whoever wins gets to pick where SSWC is next year. surly has won the derby the past few years, and have been taking suggestions from people who are willing to host 500+ crazy singlespeeders in their town!
to win you had be best out of 3, my team almost won but i was unaware that the winners got to pick the location of the next SSWC, and didnt give it my all.

If you sign up for Iceland Air's "Lucky Fares Email Alert", you'll see all the last minute flights into Sweden. I've flown several times into Sweden from BWI. I've flown as low as $250 bucks. You stop over in Iceland, but it's usually about 90 minutes. They fly you into Stockholm, then you just take a bus into the downtown Stockholm area.
Iceland Air is great- they were going through a bankruptcy, so they were desperate to sell flights. You get on the plane, and there's like 50 people on a jumbo jet. I would get a whole row to myself. The last time, it was a full flight though. I think they're recovering.
Go, but be aware there's no sunlight this time of year, and it's freakin' cold. But still... lots of fun. Swedes know how to party, the bars are packed, and you can knock back some good vodka and meet some cool people.

well, I'm not much of an SS-mtb type of guy but if you have any questions regarding Stockholm I'm only a PM away.
